June CWC Update
The final official meeting of the year was held on May, 14 2026. We had a good turnout and thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of food our members brought for the potluck.
Here are some building updates...
- The mulberry tree was trimmed and deep watered
- The lounge, east-facing, and back windows need replacing. These windows are so loose they are close to falling out.
- The cost will be $20,000 for with a possible additional cost of $10,000 to replace stucco damaged in the process. Money will come out of the Casa profits. This motion passed.
Membership
We had a New Member... Welcome Marilyn!
It is time to renew your membership (if you haven't already done so). The cost of $30 is one of the most affordable in the nation, as we do not charge any local dues. Bring it by the Tried and True Sale or mail it in. Remember you can contact Molly if you need an updated roster.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Scholarship
Melody reported that two scholarship applications were received this year, one from Kelvin Vega, a graduating senior, and one from Brianna Villanueva, a continuing college student who received the scholarship last year. They received their first check of $250 at a ceremony in May and will receive the second half after successful completion of the fall semester and evidence of registration for the spring semester are received. Kelvin plans to attend school to earn his HVAC certification. Brianna will continue her fish & game studies at ENMU Portales, where she also participates as a track athlete among other activities. Congratulations to both of these fine young people and best wishes for your futures!
Civic Engagement
Blood Drive
After two prior cancellations due to transportation issues, the Vitalant Blood Mobile executed a very successful drive on 9 May 2026. 17 appointments were made and 16 slots filled, including several "Power Red" donations.
A big thank you to Molly for organizing and to Colleen and Janet for holding the fort down inside. And, of course, a HUGE thank you to CWC members and Carrizozo community members who showed up to donate. We truly do save lives through these efforts. In other words - we totally rock!
The next blood drive will be in November. Remember that you can check your online portal for information for your next eligibility date and to find out where other blood drives are being held. The next blood drive in Carrizozo will be Tuesday 21 July at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Community Festival
The Carrizozo Community Festival will be held on 5 September. Once again we will kick off with a parade and car show, which starts at 11 AM. We are still looking for vendors, car show & parade participants, and sponsors. Applications are available at the festival website
The Woman's Club will once again have a float in the parade, and we would love your participation! Anne Exterkamp is organizing our float. Please contact her if you can help in any way.
We are also looking for volunteers to man the Information table throughout the day. If you can volunteer an hour of your time, please contact Susan Scott. Don't worry - we'll make sure you know what to do :)
Conservation
Highway Clean up – Janet
Although the official Clean-Up was cancelled due to extreme wind, a lot of people came to get bags, which were picked up later and brought to CWC.
We know that a lot of our members take time to clean up trash, and we are asking those who pick up trash on their own to take pictures and forward them to Janet. Remember to keep track of the time so you can report it later.
Janet proposed we lead the Keep Zozo Clean town clean-up in May and do the Adopt-a-Highway pick up in October. Members passed this initiative very enthusiastically.
Volunteer Log & Report
We wanted to remind members that all volunteer hours can be reported, not just those directly associated with the CWC. So, whether you volunteer at the library, museum, a school, a religious institution, picking up trash or anything else, just keep track and pass the information along to Janet.
Chat and Crafts
Peggy shared that the Chat and Crafts is currently being held at the old New Horizons building without electricity for the time being. They usually meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 9-3. If Peggy’s car is parked out front – stop in, or you can call/text her to verify.
Peggy has a bin with supplies for making cards. However, different people bring various projects. All are welcome!
The plan is to expand once the building is up and running. Eventually they would like to have sewing machines there as well as a variety of classes.
Blast from the Past
Sharon shared that in April 1920, a group of women met with the purpose of starting a Woman’s Club in Carrizozo…and look where we are now!
Officer Installation
Officers for the new year were installed. If they look familiar, there is a reason for that. Most of us continued in the roles we had for the past 2 years.
OTHER BUSINESS
As we ease into the summer, the sign-up for hostess for next year was passed around. Ideally we will have 3-4 women hosting each month. I can't promise the sign-up looks exactly like this, but if you missed signing up and would like to join in the fun, contact Janet.
Janet passed around a sign up for cleaning but then shared that they plan to hire a cleaner moving forward.
Are you a reader? Did you know our club as well as the individual readers can earn awards for their reading? Make sure to track the books you read (Title, Author and 2-3 sectence review) and send info to Patty or Janet.
Annual Convention will be in Scottsdale at the end of June; Next convention in Las Cruces.
Madeleine & Steve Sabo's Farewell Party was cancelled due to illness. At this point it is likely that it will not be rescheduled as they need to focus all of their attention on the actual move.

Secret Sister
What is Secret Sister? It is an opportunity to bring a little joy into the life of a fellow CWC member by sending them a card once a month. Many of us can't remember the last time we received mail that was not junk or bills. This is your opportunity to change that!
The current cycle of Secret Sister will wrap up with a coffee meeting at Jenn's Sweet Spot on Thursday, June 11 at 10 AM.
Sign ups for the new cycle for July – December have started. Please contact Susan Scott (Susan.Scott.NM@gmail.com) before July 1 if you would like to participate.
