August 2025 CWC Update
First off - I hope everyone is having an amazing summer!
Now for what has been going on and what is coming up...
Landscaping
The landscape committee has met several times and has some awesome plans (and I'm not just saying that because I am on the committee ;) ). With all of the flooding in Ruidoso, we have run into a bit of a slowdown regarding getting work started, as folks who would do our work have their hands full up there. Never fear, faithful CWC members! While the forward momentum may have slowed a bit, it has not stalled out. Molly will offer a more detailed update at our September meeting.
Carrizozo Not-for-Profit Alliance
Thinking way back to our last meeting, we reported that the newly formed Alliance is working on a fall festival. Well, we have been hard at work all summer to pull together what is going to be an amazing event for the entire family! In addition to what you see on the postcard, we are excited to share we are planning to have a beer garden!
More details are available at the Carrizozo Community Festival webpage.
So - how can you be involved (in addition to coming and having a fabulous time, that is):
- Connect with Sue Stearns (see story below) to help plan/participate in the parade with CWC.
- Interested in being in the parade with another organization, business, or just ride your unicycle while juggling flaming torches? We are still taking sign-ups! Information is on the festival webpage.
- We are still looking for vendors - although the deadline is fast approaching. Guess where you will find that information! Yup. Festival webpage!
- We are also looking for business sponsors. We are offering several different levels with varying benefits. Not to belabor a point, but... (click here)
- Nordis is doing an amazing job organizing the parade and the car show (yeah, Nordis!), but she could use some help that morning. Connect with her to find out how.
- We are also looking for volunteers to help with setting up the day before and morning of, helping in different ways throughout the festival, and (of course) helping with clean-up. Lisa Maue is spearheading that, so connect with her if you, your family, your church or civic organization, or anyone would like to help put on this fabulous event. The goal is to have a number of shifts so that people still have plenty of time to enjoy the day.
Carrizozo Parade
From Sue Stearns: Linda, Molly, Anne, Joann, Colleen and I met to initiate the planning for our float in the parade in September. We will have another meeting after our regular September club meeting to semi-finalize what we will be doing. Colleen volunteered husband Gary Stout to drive their flat bed trailer. Joann is making poster board cards which will display our items of volunteerism. Several will ride on the float and a couple of members will walk in front carrying our banner. Anne got decorations from the basement for use on the trailer. If anyone has purple and/or gold items which could be used, please bring to the meeting. Ideas are certainly welcome too.
What have you been up to this summer?
This is a reminder that Patty B. would love to hear from you regarding books you have read and volunteer hours you have worked. You can email her at psscott64@gmail.com. For books, just let her know the title and author as well as a very short blurb. An example is:
(That's my entry. that book is wonderful!) You don't have to put them in a spreadsheet. That is just how my recently retired brain works best. She will copy and paste what you send to share with others in our group and to add to our report.
For volunteer work, please keep track of hours of all volunteer hours, regardless of the organization for which you are volunteering. She doesn't need information on what you are doing, just the number of hours. As for me, I still need to apply some brain power to figure out my library and Alliance hours :)
September Meeting
Our first meeting of the fall will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 11. Molly is hosting, but she could really use a co-host or two. UPDATE: Molly got the help she needed within 2 hours of this posting. You all totally rock!
Recording Secretary needed!
But just for the September meeting :) I will be out galavanting (as my sister says), so, if someone would take some notes during the meeting, that would be fabulous!
See you in October!
