Civic Engagement

Non-Profit Summit Report – May 2 Community Yard Sale. Details to come. 

Blood Mobile – Janet

• The December date was canceled due to mechanical issues with the vehicle. It has been rescheduled for 1/24/2026. Sign up online at https://donors.vitalant.org/dwp/portal/dwa 
• Volunteers rae needed to be present and provide access to restrooms: Janet, Colleen. Others are welcome :)

Santa’s Helpers Report – Juaquina

• 61 families from Carrizozo were helped! This is a huge increase from last year!
• The $200 donation from the Carrizozo Woman’s Club was used to purchase 18 turkeys
• 5 turkeys were returned as the families did not have a means to cook them. Arrangements have been made to provide turkey smoking for families without cooking facilities.
• Toys for Tots donated 5 bicycles to Carrizozo children; Santa’s Helpers donated 1 bicycle. 
• Mission for 2026 is to donate 20 bicycles
• Fundraising to support this effort will go throughout the year.
• Possible fundraising events at the Club were discussed.
• Motion to waive the building use fee for the fundraisers: Susan Scott. Second: Yolla. Passed unanimously

Bingo for Boobs – Yolla

• This was held November 15 at the Club, and with 56 community members in attendance it is quickly becoming a community favorite. Everyone had a great time, which was obvious to anyone who tuned in to the Facebook Live showing.
• $565 total brought in. Divided: $282 to bingo winners; $282 to Altrusa
• Through this outreach, we gained 12 followers on Facebook
• Yolla suggested we hold additional bingo nights during the year, possibly benefiting other causes. Details to be decided later

Holiday Hoedown – Sharon H for Melody

• This was held on November 7 & 8. There was a great community turnout with several vendors selling out.
• 17 vendors registered at $40 each for a total of $685. The winners of the Favorite Table (Fran Altiere) and Most Christmas Spirit Table (Mary & Bowan Elam) had their fees reimbursed, resulting in a total Table Rental income of $605.
• On Friday, 54 bowls of soup (posole & creamy chicken noodle) were sold for $5 a bowl, resulting in a total of $270.
• On Saturday, the Traditional Holiday meal consisted of turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and dinner rolls with pumpkin bars for dessert. This brought in $867.50.
• Expenses for both days were $288.63, resulting in a total profit of $1453.87 for the two-day event.

Valentine’s Bake Sale – Janet

• Profits fund scholarships. Last year, we provided four $500 scholarships. All of this money stayed local!
• Date set for Friday, 13 February, from 9 AM - 1 PM
• Co-Chairs: Yolla & Juaquina
• Flowers: Melody? (need to verify); Linda Remus will help
• Silent auction: Juaquina will provide 2 cakes to be auctioned off. Winners must pick up with cake before the end of the sale that day. Details TBD by co-chairs
• Flyer distribution: Juaquina (she’s everywhere), Nordis (volunteered in abstentia, need to verify availability), Colleen 
• In addition to distribution, flyers will be placed on community bulletin board and in e-newsletter as well as on FB
• Baked goods will be priced as follows: Cakes & Pies will be priced at $15 each; Other items priced at $8 per pound; 
• Baked (or no-bake) goods are to be brought to meeting on 12 February or to the Club that morning
• Please label items re- contents, allergens, gluten-free, etc.
• Basket engineer: Donna H
• Requested baskets, donation items, and cellophane
• Baskets can be general or themed (e.g. gardening, yarn work, etc.)
• Items should be brought to the meeting by the meeting on the 12th
• Workers are needed to day of the event! Janet plans to be at Club at 8-ish

Chat and Crafts – Peggy

• Relocating to Molly’s new building, across from Town Hall
• Will be on Tuesdays. Currently no heat or electricity. Contact Peggy for information.

Stitch & Sip - Susan Scott

• On non-meeting Thursdays, join us at Jenn's Sweet Spot at 9 AM for a time to hang out with other yarn/string/thread crafters.  We currently have people working on knitting and crochet projects, but all are welcome. Experience is not needed - we can help you learn some basic stitches. We do ask the participants support Jenn's by purchasing something while we are there.
• On meeting weeks, we will move to Mondays.

Blast from the Past – Sharon H. 

Sharon shared that the Club formerly hosted a nativity scene. It was suggested we look into the possibility of reviving this. more discussion to come!

OTHER BUSINESS

Tried and True Sale – Janet

Since the Carrizozo Community Yard Sale is being held on 2 May, Janet suggested we consider having our annual Tried & True event correspond with that. A unanimous vote made that move official. Start saving your donation items - but remember not to drop them off until we let everyone know.

A motion was made to use a portion of proceeds to purchase 2 children’s bicycles for Santa’s Helpers for Carrizozo children, and this passed unanimously

Carrizozo Not For Profit Alliance

An additional representative needed. Colleen volunteered to join Yolla in this. They will be meeting in another couple of weeks.

What does the President do: Janet

With officer elections looming in the near future, current officers are sharing what their job entails. Janet shared that her main duties are to create agenda, lead meetings, keep things on track, keep people informed, and communicate with state president.
