Non-Profit Summit Update –
  • The Digital Community Calendar has been created and is live. This is to help promote events and activities throughout Carrizozo and surrounding area. Also will help organizations in planning. Click here to access the calendar. Click here to submit an event that is open to the community.
  • The Community Bulletin Board is up at Nourishing Nation. Stop by to see what is going on.
  • Community-wide event being planned: Carrizozo Community Festival will be held on 27 September from 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM and will feature a parade, vendors, food trucks, music, and activities for all ages. The Woman's Club will have a float and provide information for the general Info table.
Blood Mobile
The goal for the May 3 blood drive held at the Woman's Center was 17 units. 17 units were collected! This means the Blood Drive helped save up to 51 lives. Once again, CWC is making a difference!
State Convention Report
The State Convention was held on 25-26 April in Truth or Consequences. Nordis E, Sue S, Sharon H, and Katie W attended.
  • CWC earned may awards and recognitions, including 1st place and Best of Show for the scrapbook
  • Benefits of Belonging was presented and is available in the GFWC newsletter
  • Awards were placed on a table in the main room for members to see. Awards for individual members will be distributed.
  • Next Year: Portales in April. This will be the first combined conference – there will no longer be district conferences. CWC will be hosting in October 2026. Details to come.
  • Awards include volunteer hours. Members can report all volunteer hours – those for CWC and for other organizations.
  • Books read should be reported to Patty. You can email her with the title and author of the book as well as a couple of sentences about the book, including whether or not you recommend it.
  • Kudos to Patty for compiling information for the awards! If she didn't compile this information, we wouldn't be recognized.
  • Our club did an amazing job at supporting the Lap Blanket project. See the complete story here.
Scholarship Update – Melody G.
Five graduating seniors applied. Since no applications were received for continuing education, Melody proposed that we award an additional high school scholarship. Members agreed.
All applications were made available on a table in the main room, and members were encouraged to review them and to vote for those they feel are most deserving.
Scholarships were awarded to Jeremiah Hill and Bryana Villanueva during a presentation on May 19th at the high school.

Carrizozo Woman’s Club Adopt a Highway

May 10, 2025 Time – 9am
Volunteers – 7 Hours – 24 Miles – 196 Cost – zero
It was a beautiful day with gorgeous skies and very little wind. We met at the Jenn’s Sweet Spot AKA Carrizozo Community Park to get our assignments. We were originally going to do this on April 19th but it snowed! The Trashy Ladies and two Trashy Men picked up 8 bags of trash off highway 380 heading east out of town between MM67 and MM68. Thank you to Colleen and Gary Stout, Susan and Chuck Scott, Dauna Mruskovic, Anne Exterkamp and Janet Petty for coming out to make our community a little more beautiful.

It took us about two hours to finish up and then we just had to stop in at Jen’s for breakfast and some good coffee. We had a great time meeting with old friends and making some new ones. We had fun got in some exercise and had a great breakfast. All while enjoying the beauty of Carrizozo. Thank you again to all who participated.
Janet Petty Conservation Chairperson
Keep Zozo Clean – (Nordis) Meet at History Museum at 10 AM. Clean up should be done by noon. Community businesses have been very generous in donating prizes. A hot dog lunch will be provided. Blue Dog will provide bags and gloves and will pick up bags. 24 local businesses are supporting this event!

Membership
Janet has printed rosters. Dues are due - $30 – for next year. If you have not already paid, please mail your payment over the summer.

Chat and Crafts
There are no specific meeting dates/times right now. Please contact Peggy for information. She has a lot of scrapbook supplies for people to use.

Other Business
Tried and True Sale, being held on June 21 from 9 AM to 1 (or 2 PM), is being organized by Peggy & Donna. Thank you for stepping up, ladies!

Only the really large items will be priced. Also there will possibly be a silent auction for more expensive items. Everything else will be on a "make me an offer" basis.

Secret Sister
Thank you, Anne for organizing the December - June Secret Sister. Susan Scott will be taking over for the July 25 – Dec. 25 rotation. Contact Susan (Susan.L.Scott.2017@gmail.com) by 30 June if you would like to participate.

Teacher Appreciation – Donna and Peggy bought/collected snacks, which Peggy will take to the school. Our teachers work hard and deserve to be recognized. Thank you Donna and Peggy for making this happen!

Yard Rehab
Yes, we know the yard needs some work. As a first step, a committee, comprised of Molly, Nordis, Patty, Katie, Juaquina, Colleen, and Susan S was formed. Any thoughts, questions, concerns, ideas, and so forth can be passed along to one of these ladies. We will keep members informed as things progress. However, please keep in mind that people are traveling this summer and reliable contractors are very busy, so it will take some time to get rolling.

Thank you to all who brought delicious food for the potluck!

The next meeting will be on 11 September. Have an amazing summer!
