January 2025 CWC Newsletter

As this month's regular meeting was canceled due to weather and re-scheduling proved to be very difficult, the CWC Board determined it was best to cancel the January meeting and handle business via e-mail. As members have indicated a desire to have a newsletter once more, and as I (Susan Scott) have some limited experience with a blog, I offered to pull this together in an effort to share information and solicit help for the upcoming Valentine's Day Sale. (Please note that I am learning as I go, so it may take some time to get this "looking pretty.")

Heating System Woes

Wonder why we were having trouble getting the building warm?

Critters decided to move into the ductwork under the Woman’s Club. They must have been a bit heavy because they fell out of the ductwork, successfully detaching it from the vents above.

Thanks to the Ventura’s John Paul, Cody and Caleb. They reattached everything.

State-Wide Art & Service Project

We received a request from Minel Schlaefli, GFWC NM Art Chairmen: “I am requesting a state wide art/service project this year.  My goal is for us to donate lap blankets for women undergoing cancer treatment.  I would like all our clubs to work on this.  We can crochet, knit, quilt, or tie fleece, 200 lap blankets.  Please reach out to your community for help.  I will contact our local quilting, crocheting, or knitting groups.  These lap blankets will be added to our state service project at our GFWC NM state convention in April. The blankets need to be 36 X48 inches, so they can fit into the care bags we plan to fill for our ladies going thru their cancer journey.”
o As there are 5 clubs, it is hoped that each club will donate 40 blankets.
o Susan S. volunteered herself and her sister, Linda W., to head up this project.

Keep your eyes open for an additional blog post with details of how you can be involved!

Reading Program

Read a good book lately? Patty B. is collecting reading information for our group to share with the district. Email her with the title and author of the book as well as a very short blurb: “Excellent”, “Didn’t care for it”, etc. It is helpful if you include the genre. Also, if you listen to audiobooks, please include your impression of the narration.

Bowls for Hunger

While things did not work out to paint bowls for Bowls for Hunger, we are still thinking of how we can support this event and our community, Stay tuned for additional details from Janet P.

Valentine's Day Sale Supplies

While Molly was in the basement, she noted: We have 5 boxes of vases and 7 boxes of stuff for baskets. We are going to have to form a chain gang to bring it up from the basement. Contact Molly to help!
We have some wonderful donations for baskets as well as a number of baskets to put your fabulous donations in...but can always use more! Donna Harkey will be working her basket magic to provide the Carrizozo community with an assortment of baskets to fit all kinds of Valentine's Day shopping needs.
Think of how wonderful these baskets are going to look once they are filled and "gussied up"!
